CFCM condemns Israeli blockade, calls for EU sanctions

The French Council of the Muslim Faith has called on France and the EU to recognize Palestine and impose sanctions on Israel. The council condemned Israel’s blockade, labeling it part of a genocidal plan.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) has urged France and the European Union to formally recognize the State of Palestine and suspend their political and economic agreements with Israel. The call comes amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the CFCM emphasized the need for immediate action, declaring, "In the face of this barbarity, we must act. It is time for France and the European Union to take concrete and courageous measures."

The organization called for swift recognition of Palestinian statehood and the implementation of diplomatic and economic sanctions to pressure the Israeli government into halting its policies of "colonization and deportation."

The council further condemned Israel’s ongoing blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza, labeling it as part of a "genocidal plan" carried out under the “chilling silence” of global powers.

Highlighting the dire situation, the statement referenced distressing images: “Images of mutilated children, operated on without anesthesia, or reduced to skeletons by starvation, will forever mark the conscience of humanity.”

The CFCM criticized what it described as the “double standard” in Western responses, noting strong mobilization for Ukraine while maintaining a passive stance toward Palestine.

“The Muslims of France, like all citizens who care about justice, will remember this betrayal: of France’s fundamental values, international commitments, humanitarian law, and universal principles,” the council stated.

Since March 18, intensified Israeli military operations have claimed more than 3,400 Palestinian lives and left thousands injured. This brings the total death toll since October 2023 to over 53,000, with the majority being women and children.
